  Head to Head

Scott Stewart believes the Diamonds can progress to the play-off final if they replicate Wednesday night's performance against Alloa.

The wing-back was named the club's Young Player of the Year at last weekend's awards ceremony after displaying impressive workrate and attacking flair throughout the season.

And those attributes were mirrored throughout the entire team on Wednesday evening as Airdrie gained a 1-0 advantage over the Wasps in the Championship play-off semi-final.

Stewart and his team-mates were pleased with the performance.

"There was a really positive mood after Wednesday's game, due to the result of course, but even more with the performance that we showed.

"We stuck to the gameplan throughout and we were disappointed we couldn't add more goals, but it was pleasing to keep a clean sheet."

Andy Ryan's 27th goal of a remarkable season was the difference between the sides, but the Diamonds dominated the majority of the match.

With the return leg looming at the Indodrill Stadium this weekend, Stewart wants to see more of the same.

"We know it's only half-time in the tie, but if we go in on Saturday with the same attitude and performance that we showed on Wednesday, then we believe we can get a positive result.

"I'm sure we'll be looking to put in the same intensity and workrate that gave us success in the first game."

Progression to the play-off final would be another fitting reward for a year of excellent performances by Stewart.

The 21-year-old was pleased to win the fans vote for best young player at last Saturday's Player of the Year awards.

"I was delighted to win Young Player of the Year. It was a great feeling to be voted by the supporters of the club - especially with having a lot of young players in the squad this season."

The Diamonds faithful will be delighted if Scott can continue his good form in Saturday's match at the Indodrill. Kick off is at 3:00pm and Barry Cook is the referee.
