Despite an early goal from young striker Euan Scott our Under 20s suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Clyde at Broadwood Astro in the second league game of the season.
For the game coach Hugo Faria fielded a young starting lineup which included starts for Under 17s players Ewan McGuinness and Euan Scott and there was a place on the bench for another two Under 17s players Ewan Gartshore and Lewis Gracie whilst Clyde also fielded a young lineup.
Our young Diamonds got the game off to a terrific start as during the opening minute of the game the ball broke to striker Euan Scott after a collision between Scott Thomson and Clyde goalkeeper Mark McMillan and he placed the ball into an empty net to give us a 1-0 lead. Clyde responded to going behind positively and had their first chance on the 11th minute when Craig Coleman hit an ambitious shot from about 25 yards out but the ball went very high and wide and two minutes later they had another chance when Euan McMillan hit a shot from about 20 yards out but the ball went well wide.
Clyde continued to search for an equaliser and on the 23rd minute had the next chance when a free kick was won as from it the ball was passed into the box to Ronan Sweeney and from a difficult angle he fired a shot by Airdrie goalkeeper Matthew Kerr and into the back of the net to make it 1-1. Chances started to dry up and the next one didn't come until the 40th minute when Airdrie were robbed of possession cheaply in the middle of the park and this resulted in Clyde striker Kyle Barr being played through on goal and with only Matthew Kerr to beat he slotted the ball by him and into the back of the net to give Clyde a 2-1 lead.
Before the next chance our young Diamonds striker Scott Thomson picked up a yellow card for persistent fouling and with only one minute of the half remaining Scott Thomson had a chance when he hit a shot from inside the box but Mark McMillan made the save. Shortly after this our Under 20s had the final chance of the half when a free kick was won as from it the ball was crossed into the box and Euan Scott got onto it with a header across goal to Calvin Cowie and he sent a header goal wards but the ball went over the bar and we headed into half time losing 2-1.
Clyde started the half brightest and had the first chance of it on the 49th minute when a corner was won as from it the ball was crossed to the back post and a Clyde player got onto it with a shot but Matthew Kerr managed to parry the ball away and after a goal mouth scramble Clyde's Divine Shanganya managed to stab the ball by Matthew Kerr and into the back of the net to give Clyde a 3-1 lead. Airdrie responded by making their first substitution as Lewis Gracie came on for Scott Thomson on the 56th minute however two minutes later Ewan McGuinness picked up a yellow card for a foul and Clyde had a chance when Divine Shanganya hit a shot from inside the box but the ball went well over the bar.
Before the next chance both teams made substitutions as our Under 20s brought Ewan Gartshore on for Ewan McGuinness and Clyde brought Dustin Trella and Aaron Miller on for Kyle Barr and Divine Shanganya and both teams also picked up bookings as Ciaran Reilly was yellow carded for a reckless challenge and as Clyde's Lewis Clark was yellow carded for a foul and Robbie Kilpatrick Red Carded for dissent. Then on the 79th minute our young Diamonds had a chance when Calvin Cowie hit an ambitious shot from about 20 yards out but Mark McMillan made the save and three minutes later Airdrie's Lewis Gracie and Conor Bell both picked up yellow cards and there was to be no more chances in the game to ensure we suffered back to back league defeats.
