DIAMONDS boss Jimmy Boyle believes his side's margin of victory over Stirling Albion on Saturday did not flatter them.

Two penalties from Graeme Owens, a double by Ryan Donnelly and a strike from Jamie Bain earned Airdrie a 5-0 Scottish Communities League Cup First Round win.

It was the perfect response from Airdrie after their opening-day defeat by the same scoreline at the hands of Livingston.

Now Boyle is looking for the Diamonds to be handed a favourable tie when the second round draw is made in Dingwall on Tuesday.

He said: "I feel the scoreline was a true reflection of the game and we need to carry forward our form from this game into the next match.

​

"Both penalty decisions were spot-on and the result was important following on from last week's heavy defeat.

​

"It was also good to keep a clean sheet. I thought our keeper (Paul McKane) made a couple of really good saves at very important times in the game. We have another couple of matches to have a further look at him.

​

"I said before the two cup games that this was the more important competition to make progress in and hopefully we can get a good draw in the next round."
