Stenhousemuir match preview

17th February 2012

AIRDRIE know they can climb into the SFL2 promotion play-off zone with a win tomorrow.

The Diamonds welcome fourth-placed Stenhousemuir to the stadium for a crucial match as the battle for a spot in the top four hots up.

Jimmy Boyle's men will leapfrog the Warriors by way of goals scored if they win by three clear goals.

And the manager – who is without centre-back Cameron MacDonald due to suspension – hopes his players are inspired by what is at stake.

He said: "We know what we have to do. Stenhousemuir are coming here on Saturday and we know what can be achieved with a win.

"There are 13 league games left. If we can go on a wee run, we can get to the play-offs. I felt we did well towards the end of last season and I want to see us go on and do that again."

Boyle believes the top two are already out of reach but says that it is very much 'game on' in terms of attempting to seal the other top-four positions.

He added: "We are not going to catch Cowdenbeath and Arbroath. Let's not be kidded here.

"We can't look at what other teams are doing. We have to take care of ourselves. We want to get into the play-offs.

"I think we have a talented squad here that should be good enough to finish in the top four. We've now got to show it."

Stenhousemuir boss David Irons faces a selection headache, with Ross McMillan and Kevin McKinlay facing suspensions after picking up red cards in last week's fixture against Dumbarton.

Stevie Murray and Martyn Corrigan are expected to join them on the sidelines.

Airdrie were 5:2 victors when the sides met at New Broomfield earlier in the season, before coming from behind to secure a 1:1 draw at a foggy Ochilview in December.

Mr Mike Tumilty will referee the match.
