Dumbarton match preview
20th January 2012
AIRDRIE know they can climb back into the Second Division promotion play-off zone tomorrow.
The Diamonds host fourth-placed Dumbarton and will move up the table with a fifth home victory of the season.
Boss Jimmy Boyle was frustrated with the 2-0 defeat to league leaders Cowdenbeath at Central Park last Saturday.
And he has called on the squad to step up to the mark for a crucial double-header against the Sons and Stirling Albion.
"The result last weekend was a setback for us," the manager said. "We had a couple of half-chances but didn't create much. We didn't play well at all.
"The play-offs were the target at the start of the season and finishing in the top four is still our goal.
"We now have two big games coming up and the Dumbarton one is a cracker given the positions of both teams in the table.
"It's important for us to go out and get a result. We know Dumbarton are on a decent run and will come here and be positive.
"But it's up to us to roll our sleeves up and work hard at getting what would be a good win."
A double from Phil Johnston and a Ryan Donnelly goal earned Airdrie a 3-0 win over the Sons on the opening day of the season but the points were shared at The Rock in October when Jamie Stevenson cancelled out Mark Gilhaney's penalty opener.
