Dundee Utd match preview
20th September 2011
JIMMY BOYLE says Airdrie will aim to put on a good performance against SPL opposition tonight.
The Diamonds entertain Dundee United in the third round of the Scottish Communities League Cup.
Airdrie are looking to recover from a 3-1 league defeat at Arbroath on Saturday.
And Boyle reckons this evening's fixture is exactly what his side need as they aim to kickstart their campaign.
The manager said: "It's a great game for us to have after the result at the weekend and I think everyone at the club is looking forward to it.
"Let's not be kidded; it's not a game we're expected to win given that they are a team from the SPL.
"Consistently, they've been a very good side and there is still a lot of quality in their squad even though some of their players have moved on.
"It would be absolutely fantastic if we could get a positive result. If not, we want to at least produce a good performance."
Diamonds keeper Paul McKane has passed a fitness test following a foot injury and will return after missing the loss to Arbroath.
But winger Ally Woodburn (thigh) is out and long-term absentee Graeme Goodall remains on the sidelines.
