Raith Rovers match preview

23rd August 2011

AIRDRIE will attempt to atone for Saturday's heavy defeat when they play in the Scottish Communities League Cup tonight.

The Diamonds welcome First Division Raith Rovers to New Broomfield for a second-round clash.

And gaffer Jimmy Boyle is demanding a positive response from his players following the 5-1 league loss to the Blue Brazil.

The manager said: "Having this game on Tuesday night will hopefully prove to be a good thing and we can get back in the swing of things.

"I'm expecting the players to come out bouncing after that result and performance. We can't be having what happened against Cowdenbeath."

Defender Jamie Bain says the players are desperate to make it up to the Diamonds faithful by pulling off a cup shock.

He said: "Nothing seemed to go right for us after we started well in the first ten minutes. I don't think any of us can say we played well.

"We are now looking forward to the game against Raith. We want to do well for the fans and hopefully we can get a win and move on."

Airdrie will be without the injured duo of Ally Woodburn and John Boyle for the visit of John McGlynn's men.

Raith currently sit in second place in SFL1, having collected seven points from a possible nine so far, and drew 1-1 with Morton on Saturday.
