Friday's match against Livingston will see the Club commemorating Remembrance weekend.

 

We will once again welcome the participation of the British Army, and observe a minute's silence before kick-off.

The following story was published in this week's Metro newspaper: 

A football kicked by British soldiers attacking German trenches during World War I has been saved after being found in a box.

 

The leather ball was dribbled across no man's land by the football team of the London Irish Rifles.

​

The soldiers passed the ball to each other whilst under heavy machine gun fire as they advanced towards the Germans at the Battle of Loos in 1915.

​

The ball ended up being pierced on barbed wires on the German front line.

​

The battle resulted in 50,000 British casualties.

The leather ball was recovered from the battle and put on display at the London Irish Rifles Museum.

​

The ball was later dumped in a box but has now been preserved and is at the museum in Camberwell, south London, this weekend to mark the regiment's St Patrick's Day parade.

Nigel Wilkinson, vice-chairman of the London Irish Rifles Regimental Association said: 'We are delighted that the ball has been conserved and will be okay for another 100 years.'
