Second annual Golf Day
9th July 2012
Unusually for this summer, the sun made an appearance at Airdrie Golf Club for the 2nd annual Airdrie FC Celeb-Am Golf tournament on Friday past.
Sponsored again by Buildbase Scotland, a strong turn-out wasn't put off by threatening clouds in mid-morning. By the time the bacon rolls were polished off, the sky was brighter, and the Hign Noon Shotgun start coincided with sunshine breaking through.
The field of 15 teams was laced with a sprinkling of decent golfers, including a few with handicaps in single figures. Of course, there were several at the other end of the scale too, putting the maximum handicap of 28 under severe strain.
In the end, the tournament was won by DW Sports Fitness gym from Coatbridge, who just pipped a Morrisons Property Care/Buildbase joint venture team to the title, with local firm Stevenson & Kelly taking 3rd spot.
The booby prize of bags of potatoes, courtesy of Albert Bartlett & Sons, went to our very own Airdrie FC 'off-field team', with Chairman Jim Ballantyne securing the unenviable double by scooping the individual equivalent for hitting the shortest drive of the day...
Airdrie FC would like to thank all participants, sponsors DW Gym, Inver House Distillers, Albert Bartlett & Sons and lead sponsor Buildbase Scotland, and last but not least our hosts from Airdrie Golf Club for helping make for a most memorable and enjoyable day. Next year's event, a warm-up for the Ryder Cup in 2014, promises to be bigger and better still.
