Airdrie v Partick Thistle preview

28th December 2012

A first victory in over two months is the objective for Airdrie at home to Partick Thistle tomorrow.

The Diamonds welcome the Irn-Bru First Division leaders to New Broomfield as they continue their festive programme.

Both teams will trot out onto the pitch on the back of Boxing Day defeats. Airdrie lost 3-0 at Hamilton Accies while the Jags faltered 2-1 against Morton.

Jimmy Boyle's outfit, with just one win in 16 games, are desperate for points in order to maintain the seven-point gap to rock-bottom Dumbarton and stay in touch with the teams above them.

But the manager knows the display against the Glasgow side, who inflicted a 7-0 hammering at Firhill in October, must be an improvement on the showing at New Douglas Park.

He said: "The result and the performance were not good enough.

"We changed our shape to try and be positive and put them under pressure but silly mistakes have cost us again.

"We did have chances and had we taken a good one before the break, we could have got it to 2-1 and then it is game on. But we weren't able to do that."

On the visit of the Jags, Boyle added: "It's going to be a really tough game against a really good side.

"We just have to keep working hard. That's what I'm doing and that is what I want the players to do every time we go out there."
