Liam Lindsay is determined to end his loan spell at Airdrie on a high after a bittersweet penultimate weekend.

The on-loan Partick Thistle youngster headed the winner at Peterhead last Saturday - his first senior goal - but results elsewhere meant the Diamonds missed out on a promotion play-off. 

​

Now the big defender wants a win against Dunfermline Athletic to lift the mood ahead of the close season. 

​

"It's always good to end the season with a win and good performance as it sets everyone up for the next season. 

​

"You want to win every game no matter the circumstances. 

​

"The boys are gutted about missing the play-off, especially because of how close it was in the end. 

​

"You look back at games where you feel you could have picked up a few points here and there." 

​

A top four finish always looked a tall order for Airdrie after a poor start to the season, and despite a fantastic run of post-Christmas form, the Diamonds were relying on other teams slipping up. 

​

Those hopes were dashed last week as Brechin secured the point they required against Stenhousemuir, but Airdrie were sticking to their task as Lindsay bagged an 83rd minute winner at Balmoor. 

​

"I was delighted with it - it was my first senior goal so it made it better that it ended up the winner - but of course it could have meant so much more if results went our way." 

​

With one game remaining, the goal was one of the final acts of an impressive loan spell in which the Thistle man has gone about his business with a class and confidence beyond his years.

Has it been good for Liam?

"Yes, I've enjoyed it all. The lads and staff have been different class with me and I also feel I have improved as a player massively. 

​

"Overall it's been a brilliant few months." 

​

Dunfermline come to town tomorrow aiming to leapfrog Peterhead into 6th - their highest possible finish after a disappointing season in which they were tipped by many to run away with the title. 

​

The Pars’ board this week announced that John Potter will return to coaching duties from next season, so the interim manager will be especially keen to end his tenure on a high. 

​

With the old rivals due to meet again next season, no quarter is likely to be given in Saturday’s match.
