Airdrie are capable of overcoming Brechin in Saturday's showdown, according to midfielder Liam Watt.

The Diamonds head north to Glebe Park to face Ray McKinnon's men as the battle for fourth place hots up, and Airdrie's reigning Young Player of the Year understands the enormity of the result. 

​

"It's a massive game for both teams, it'll be a very hard game. 

​

"Both teams are on a good run of form, but I believe we are capable of winning. Confidence is high in the team and everyone's fighting for each other." 

​

Watt was a second-half substitute in last week's win over Stirling Albion, and the turnaround which saw Airdrie come from behind to take all three points coincided with the midfielder's introduction. 

​

"Before I came on I was told to be positive and drive forward, so that's what I did when I could. 

​

"We had them on the ropes for a good 10 mins. As soon as we got the goal for 1-1 we started to play a lot quicker and more direct, and they couldn't handle it - then the goals just started flowing." 

​

With a settled team proving a key factor in Airdrie's recent good form, Watt has been limited to cameo appearances of late - but the 21-year-old is happy to fight for his place. 

​

"As a player I want to start every game I can, but right now the team is doing extremely well so I can't complain.

​

"I'll sit and wait for my chance and I'm sure it will come again - and I'll be ready." 

​

Watt will be hoping that chance comes on Saturday, as the Diamonds aim to claw back the 9-point deficit between them and fourth place. With Brechin sitting third on 46 points, a win would see them brought within seven points. 

​

City's sensational form has seen them unbeaten in 16 matches, but a winter backlog has meant that Saturday's match will be their fifth in fourteen days. 

​

Liam is aware that tiredness could creep in to opposition ranks as a result of such a gruelling schedule, but insists the Diamonds won't be relying on it. 

​

"That is a lot of games in two weeks - hopefully that should help us later on in the game, but we shouldn't plan for it. 

​

"In football anything can happen."
