A little luck can see the hard-working Diamonds turn draws into victories - that's the view of Chris O'Neil as Airdrieonians gear up to face Stenhousemuir.

A victory over the Warriors will see Airdrie leapfrog the Larbert men in the table, but although confidence is on the up following a four-match unbeaten run, vital points have been squandered on stalemates. 

​

Defender O'Neil believes that a rub of the green is all that's been missing as the Diamonds have drawn with Peterhead and Stirling in the league, and Morton in the Scottish Cup. 

​

"We are all working hard in training during the week and we are getting closer to a win, I am sure this will change as we get a bit of luck. 

​

"We're feeling confident. We're playing much better than we did at the start of the season, and we're looking to keep up the good run of form". 

​

It's a third meeting of the season for the clubs, and although Stenhousemuir ran out comfortable winners in the League Cup game in August, Airdrie were desperately unlucky to go down to a late Martin Grehan winner at Ochilview in the league opener. 

​

With little over quarter of the season gone, O'Neil is aware that familiarity will play a part - but knows it's not something to be relied upon. 

​

"We know their players, but every game is different and you never know what can happen in the 90 minutes. 

​

"We'll prepare as normal - and hopefully get the 3 points". 

​

Following Saturday's goalless draw at Cappielow, a Scottish Cup replay is looming on Tuesday evening. 

​

Chris insists that the squad will look to that tie only after the final whistle goes on Saturday. 

"The players are just taking it one game at a time. We're focussed fully on Stenhousemuir and there will be no talk of the replay until after the game". 

​

The 19-year-old full back has been an ever present in Airdrie's league campaign, but the rest of the backline has been less settled. 

​

Injuries, international call-ups and loan availability have meant that boss Gary Bollan has had to continually shuffle his defence this season, and that may continue on Saturday with the return of Ben Richards-Everton, who missed out on last weekend's cup tie as parent club Partick Thistle didn't want him cup-tied. 

​

David Proctor remains a doubt as he recovers from a hamstring pull. 

​

Scott Booth's Stenny have struggled since their smash-and-grab victory on day one, and they'll be looking to pick themselves up from the disappointment of a 2-1 cup exit at the hands of Brechin City.
