Taste of full-time football for academy
9th October 2015
Airdrieonians Academy players will feel like full-timers next week as they go through a superb three-day training camp at the Excelsior Stadium.
There was frustration in the coaching family at the Club as the October week holidays means our current training base at Caldervale HS shuts down for the school holidays and would have left the players idle.
Director of Coaching Eddie Wolecki Black hatched the idea of the Academy Training Camp which will see the Under-13s, 14s, 15s and 17s coming in on three successive days for intensive sessions on the football philosophy the club is developing for the way forward.
UEFA Pro Licence coach Eddie said: “We had a plan in place to get through all of the Academy teams with sessions in tandem with their team coaches but to get them through those night by night would have taken us three months.
“This way in 18 hours of coaching next week we can get the message across much more quickly and it is going to be invaluable as we get to know the depth of talent at the club.
“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the stadium owners who have given us the training time free of charge to help boost the education of our players, that was a fantastic gesture.”
Eddie will be joined by chief executive Iain King, an A Licence coaching candidate this season, to deliver the sessions and the daily timetable which starts on Tuesday October 13 looks like this:
U13s: 9am-10.30am
U14s: 10.30am-12noon
U15s: 1pm-2.30pm
U16s: 2.30pm-4pm
