Harps steps down
16th September 2015
Airdrieonians Under-20s head coach Kevin Harper has resigned from his post.
The former Hibs and Portsmouth striker had made a big impact in the club since coming in to replace Stevie Findlay who moved to Queen’s Park in the summer.
The demands of the post on top of a full-time job, though, mean he has had to resign with immediate effect.
Chief Executive Iain King said: “I have huge belief in Kevin as a coach so it’s a tough one but we fully understand and it’s better we know now and put in solid foundations for the future.
“Kevin impressed everyone from players to parents in his short time here but this won’t derail our vision for the future of the Academy and we will have big announcements there in the next two weeks.”
In other news, Diamond youngster Macauley Wilson is recuperating after he was stretchered off in Monday night’s 3-1 Development League defeat from Ayr United Under-20s at the Excelsior.
Macca fell heavily on his back and hip after an aerial challenge and had to be given oxygen on the pitch by physio Kirsty Hughes during a lengthy stoppage.
He was kept overnight in Monklands Hospital but was released on Tuesday afternoon and is now on crutches.
We wish Macauley a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in the Diamond before too long.
