Captain Marc Fitzpatrick is counting on Airdrie's away form to provide inspiration at Peterhead on Saturday.

The Diamonds have picked up seven league wins on the road this season, compared to only four at home.

​

The most recent disappointments have come against bottom two Brechin and Forfar, with only one point to show for the two New Broomfield ties, and Fitzpatrick says that's not good enough.

​

"I can't really explain the last two games. We performed under the level that we would expect, we were really flat and there are no excuses."

​

The unfortunate disruption in the dugout may have proven a factor, with Acting Head Coach Danny Lennon claiming last week that the players looked "mentally tired" against Brechin.

​

Lennon becomes the fourth manager to lead the team this season, but Fitzpatrick is philosophical about the situation.

​

"Generally it's not ideal, but under the circumstances we have with the gaffer falling ill there are no problems - football at the end of the day is just a game.

​

"As a squad we're just delighted to have someone of Danny's experience to help guide us through the remaining games."

​

As the attention turns to Peterhead on Saturday, the Diamonds are aiming to reclaim fourth spot - taken by Stranraer on Tuesday evening after a commendable draw at Balmoor.

​

The Blue Toon's form sees them sitting in second place, but Fitzpatrick is confident Airdrie can achieve a positive result.

​

"Of course this is a very difficult fixture, Peterhead are doing really well just now, but we can definitely go there and get a result.

​

"We've proven this season we can do well away from home. Some of our better performances have been in away games, so we'll go there and give it our best shot."

​

The race for fourth is hotting up as the season draws to a conclusion. Stranraer currently occupy the final play-off position, but Airdrie and Albion Rovers are both one point behind the Blues with a game in hand.

​

Club captain Marc has a message for the Diamonds' faithful as another rollercoaster season plays out.

​

"Just stick with us, we want the play-offs just as badly as the fans.

​

"We'll be doing everything we can to accomplish fourth place. We have seven massive games to look forward to - let's hope we can all do it!"

Danny Lennon has had a chance to see most of his players in action following last Saturday's match and the midweek friendly with FC Edmonton, and the Acting Head Coach has a full squad to choose from as he prepares for the trip north.

​

The Diamonds won the first meeting of the sides this season, substitute Jamie Bain netting the winner in August. Peterhead turned the tables with a 2-0 Balmoor win in October, and came from behind to win 4-3 on Boxing Day following Neil Parry's controversial red card.
