Loan star George Hunter has hit the ground running at New Broomfield, and the striker wants the Diamonds' winning streak to continue against Ayr United.

19-year-old St.Johnstone prospect Hunter already has a goal and two assists to his name since joining up at Airdrie - not a bad return for less than two hours on the pitch.

The former Spartans hitkid is feeling at home already.

​

"I feel I'm settling in well. The boys have made me feel really welcome, and it was good to get my first start on Saturday against Albion Rovers.

​

"It was a dream debut for me to come on and score and then set up the winner against Cowdenbeath.

​

"Hopefully there's more to come - I just need to keep working hard and the chances will come."

​

Gary Bollan's squad lost their opening two league fixtures, but haven't looked back with four wins out of four since then.

​

The winning run puts the Diamonds in fourth position - just a point from the top of the league.

Ian McCall's Ayr United have also made an impressive start to their campaign, and sit in second place, only behind leaders Forfar on goal difference.

​

As Airdrie welcome the Honest Men to New Broomfield, Hunter thinks a home win is in the Diamonds' own hands.

​

"That's what we are hoping for, we're on a great run and long may it continue.

​

"We need to work hard off the ball and take our chances when they come and we will have no problem."

​

It's so far so good for Airdrie, currently occupying the promotion play-off position targeted at the start of the campaign. With Hunter brought in to provide extra firepower, an extension to the loan may be a possibility.

​

George would be happy to stay and fire the team towards the Championship.

​

"Hopefully I can do everything I can to help the Club to promotion.

​

"It's up to the gaffer at St Johnstone to decide about any extension, but I would be more than happy to stay out on loan until the end of the season."

Jim Lister is the only long-term injury concern for the Diamonds with Marc Fitzpatrick making his comeback in last week's derby win over Albion Rovers. Kevin McBride, David van Zanten and Jordan Morton continue to be monitored as they return from knocks.

​

Midfielder Jamie Adams is a doubt for Ayr, who include former Airdrie stars Paddy Boyle, Ross Docherty and Alan Trouten in their squad.

​

Steven Kirkland will officiate the tie, which saw two red cards over the course of the last campaign. Airdrie triumphed in all four meetings then, but the Ayrshire men look a different prospect this season.
