Trust kick off Mongolian adventure
18th September 2015
Representatives of Airdrieonians Supporters' Trust got their Mongolian expedition underway with a football match - but the less said about the result the better!
The Trust members have travelled to Mongolia to build "gers" (traditional Mongolian huts) for homeless families, and are keen to spread the Airdrie football word while they're at it.
Participating in the inaugural Glengoyne Cup, the Trust took on a representative side of the current Mongolian national champions, Khoromhon. The match, played at the national arena and officiated by a team of FIFA qualified match officials, was devised to promote links between Mongolian and Scottish football.
Held on British Fair Day in the Mongolian capital Ulaan Baatar, the tie ended disastrously for the Trust boys as they went down 11-3 to Khoromhon.
British Ambassador Catherine Arnold presented the Trust team and match sponsors Glengoyne with a plaque to celebrate the historic occasion.
The intrepid Trust members now continue on their Asian adventure hoping that the first team will fare a little better on Saturday. Well done, lads!
