Bryan Gilfillan insists the Diamonds have enough character to bounce back from their nightmare start.

With two defeats from two league matches, Airdrie are aiming to get off the mark with a win over Brechin City - who find themselves in a similar predicament.

​

But midfielder Gilfillan says that poor results have been caused by mistakes, and the squad have it in them to turn things around.

​

"Individual errors seem to be costing us.

​

"The goals we've conceded have been very poor and preventable, but there's plenty of character in the squad and we'll bounce back as a group. 

​

"Hopefully we can get something up at Brechin".

​

Brechin are one of four League One sides to have undergone a managerial change over the summer, and new boss Darren Dods has found things difficult so far.

​

An opening day thumping at the hands of Dunfermline was followed by a narrow defeat by Ayr, and the Angus side have also crashed out of both cups at the first hurdle.

​

Gilfillan knows that both teams will be going all out for their first points.

​

"Every game is a must-win, and the longer it takes to get the first points on the board the more pressure we might feel. 

​

"Brechin have had a hard start to the season also, so both teams will be looking to get off the mark."

​

With the promotion play-offs a stated aim for the Diamonds after narrowly missing out last season, the poor start hasn't done Gary Bollan's men any favours.

​

Are the squad capable of achieving that aim? Bryan thinks so.

​

"For a club the size of Airdrie, promotion should definitely be the aim. 

​

"We can't let ourselves get into the same situation we found ourselves in last season, where the top four created a huge gap and pulled away from the rest.

​

"We're capable, but we need to start showing it on the pitch - starting on Saturday."

​

Marc Fitzpatrick and Jim Lister are still sidelined for the Diamonds, with Kevin McBride doubtful after the midfielder limped out of last Saturday's defeat at Ochilview.

​

Paul McLean and Dene Shields are likely to miss out for the hosts, with Ross Perry doubtful. City are also without goalkeeper Graeme Smith, who was red-carded in the final minute of last weekend's defeat at Ayr.
