Ryan Conroy
11th July 2016
Season 2016/17 gets underway this Friday night with a Betfred Cup tie against Partick Thistle at New Broomfield.
Five new faces in the Ravenscraig changing room took time out from training to speak to airdriefc.com this week, as we asked #AreYouReady?
With four days to go till the big kick off, we catch up with midfielder Ryan Conroy...
HOW DID YOUR MOVE TO AIRDRIE COME ABOUT?
I’ve known Barra for a few years. He spoke to me at the beginning of May but I was getting married in the summer, so when I came back from my honeymoon I came in to train for two weeks or so and enjoyed it, so I was happy enough to sign.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF AIRDRIE?
The only time I’ve played at the stadium was with the reserves at Celtic a good few years ago.... I’ve never played against Airdrie!
WHAT ARE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE CLUB?
It’s been good, it seems like a good group of boys. The way things are being done is very professional. I know it’s the first year of being full time, but everybody’s pushing in the right direction.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING TO THE TEAM?
I’m a wee bit older now so hopefully I’ll bring a bit of experience because it is quite a young group. I’ve been brought in to create chances and I’ll be hoping to score a few myself.
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL AIMS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON?
I like setting up goals just as much as scoring them, but hopefully I can get on the scoresheet a few times. I had a difficult season last year but I am used to scoring a few goals – hopefully that can continue!
WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS FOR THE TEAM AS A WHOLE?
We want to push for the league title. That’s our main aim and that’s what we’ve been training towards. I think the pre-season games have started quite well and you can tell in training that everyone’s positive. That’s what the aim should be at the start of every season – I’ve come here with the desire to win.
