Andy Ryan

13th July 2016

Season 2016/17 gets underway this Friday night with a Betfred Cup tie against Partick Thistle at New Broomfield.

Five new faces in the Ravenscraig changing room took time out from training to speak to airdriefc.com this week, as we asked #AreYouReady?

With two days to go till the big kick off, we catch up with striker Andy Ryan...

HOW DID YOUR MOVE TO AIRDRIE COME ABOUT?
Obviously I was at Forfar last season, I went there to get a few games and get back enjoying it again. After the season ended I had a few options, but as soon as I heard Airdrie coming up, the full-time thing attracted me here. When I spoke to the manager the ambition was there as well, so that made my mind up.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF AIRDRIE?
I’ve played against Airdrie a few times over the years, including last season. They like to try and play football, I think that’s one of the things you can expect this season – we’ll try to build from the back and play a good brand of football. It’s always been a good club, and I think we’re going on to the next level now.

WHAT ARE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF THE CLUB?
It’s a good setup. Ravenscraig is a great training facility, and with the boys being in here together every day it should reap its rewards on the park.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING TO THE TEAM?
First and foremost, as a striker, goals. I also work hard for the team, that’s one thing you’re guaranteed – if I’m not having my best game you’ll still see me giving 110%.

WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL AIMS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON?
I do have a goalscoring target, but I like to keep it to myself! Obviously I want to play as many games as I can and score as many goals as I can.

WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS FOR THE TEAM AS A WHOLE?
I think we’ve started pre-season well, and going full-time we want to be up at the top end of the table without a doubt.
