Diamonds to add fan rep to board

Airdrieonians Supporters' Trust have struck an agreement with the club that will see a fan representative on the board from the beginning of next season.
It is the latest of a series of moves which see the club and Trust working closely together, and builds on the unique sponsorship deal agreed earlier in the season.
Both parties are currently working together with Supporters Direct to create terms of reference for a new operational board, which will oversee the day-to-day running of the League One team. The plan is that a fan will play a pivotal role on this board, helping to articulate the views of the fanbase and galvanise a support and energy that will improve the matchday experience and help to develop the club.
Willie Marshall, chair of the Trust, said: “We’re increasingly providing a bridge between the fans and the club and this move will strengthen that. It improves our influence and ensures the fans have a meaningful voice at the table.”
Airdrie’s chairman and owner Tom Wotherspoon fully backs the move. He said: “This is the future. Fan representation will become a bigger part of the Scottish game in seasons to come. It’s very important to me that this happens, and that the representative has a positive contribution to make.”
“The club recognises and appreciates the work the Trust does, and this move acknowledges that.”
Over the coming months the Trust will invite nominees to stand for this crucial role. There will then be a vote open to the Trust membership, with the most popular candidate taking their place for season 17/18.
Willie added: “It’s an interesting and exciting time to be an Airdrie fan, both on and off the field. For us, it's vital that a fan representative can properly support the ongoing development of the club.
"This has been one of our long-term objectives, so we are delighted with the agreement.”
