Andy Ryan won't be giving up the day job after his TV singing debut, but the striker hopes he's still standing at the top of the club's scoring charts come the end of the season.

'Chucky' is in red-hot form on the pitch with six goals in nine games this season, but he found himself belting out an Elton John hit for the STV news cameras on Monday.

He explained "We went to the stadium thinking we were going to be hitting a few shots for the cameras and we got roped into singing.

​

"I'd like to think I've got a few more years left on the football pitch, so I've got no plans to give up the day job just yet!"

​

Ryan netted his sixth of the season at Brechin last weekend, and he's happy with his form in front of goal.

​

"I'm on the way to the goal target I've set myself, but there are more important things.

​

"We need to get back to getting a wee run of wins together. I don't think we're a million miles away from where we want to be, but we need to tighten up on a few things to make it easier for ourselves."

​

While the goals have been going in at the right end, Airdrie have also been guilty of conceding too many at the opposite end, leading to a few frustrating results.

​

Ryan is quick to hit back at any criticism of the Diamonds defence though.

​

"We win as a team and we lose as a team. The defending should start from the front.

​

"The whole team could sharpen our game up a bit."

​

Andy and his team-mates welcome newly-promoted East Fife to New Broomfield on Saturday, and the striker is keen to get back to winning ways.

​

"We go into every game believing we can win, it would be pointless if we didn't.

​

"It's going to be another tough game, I don't think there are any easy games in this league. East Fife are a decent side and they'll try to play football, but we're at home and we need to play our own game.

​

"The big pitch suits the way we play, it gives us space to go and exploit teams."

​

Kevin McBride has a full-strength squad for the visit of Gary Naysmith's Fifers, and the head coach added: "I expect this to be one of our most difficult games so far, but we're up for it.

​

"If we can make ourselves harder to beat, we've got the goals in the team to win games."

​
