Scott Stewart believes Airdrie can go on another winning streak - and hopes to kick it off against Stranraer this Saturday.

The Diamonds head to South Ayrshire aiming to recover from league defeats at the hands of Stenhousemuir and Livingston, but a record-equalling six wins in a row prior to that means the squad are still confident of providing Christmas cheer for the travelling fans.

Stewart has faced a frustrating time with injuries of late, and the right-back is hopeful he's now back on track.

 

"I've had two separate ankle injuries over the last month or so, a gash from the East Fife game and another knock I picked up in the cup game with Livingston.

​

"It was good to be back involved on Saturday, and hopefully that's me back to full fitness.

 

"With a new gaffer coming in, it's not been the ideal time to be out injured - if there is an ideal time!"

 

Stewart played the full 90 minutes at Livingston last weekend, and the 20-year-old managed his usual all-action display despite the defeat.

"I feel that coming back from injury it's all about getting back into things, and personally I think I've put in better performances.

​

"It was good to be back involved, we're just disappointed with the result."

​

 

That result meant the Lions stretched their lead at the top of the table to 10 points, which is a blow for an Airdrie side who had previously reduced the gap to only one point.

Scott sees no reason why the Diamonds can't claw it back again.

​

"We've been further behind than this and we got to within one point of the top. We believe in ourselves, we know we can put another run of wins together and you never know what might happen.

​

"We take it one game at a time. Hopefully we can get a win at Stranraer and push on from there.

​

"We need to apply ourselves in the same way no matter who we're playing or where they are in the league. We're confident if we produce the performance, we'll get the result."

​

Head coach Mark Wilson knows his side are in for another tough afternoon.

​

"We're looking forward to it. We're trying to bounce back after two disappointing results, but we're ready for it.

 

"We know the way Stranraer play, and we'll maybe change one or two things. We're looking forward to the challenge."

 

One definite change to the Airdrie lineup comes courtesy of a suspension for striker Iain Russell, who misses out after an accumulation of disciplinary points.

 

Daniel Boateng and Andy Ryan return to the squad after missing the trip to Livingston.

 

Gavin Ross is the referee for this Christmas Eve clash, the Diamonds' last match of 2016.
