Scott Stewart is looking forward to his first game at Hampden Park, and hopes Airdrie can make it two wins in a row as the Diamonds wrap up their Betfred Cup Group E fixtures against Queen's Park.

Airdrie travel to Mount Florida on the back of their first competitive victory of the season, a 2-1 win over Stenhousemuir on Saturday.

​

Stewart was pleased to get the result.

​

"It's always good to get the first win out of the way, then hopefully you can push on from that. 

"It gives the boys a lot of confidence going into the next game".

​

Adam Brown was Airdrie's matchwinner on Saturday, netting twice from the right of midfield - a position Stewart has occupied previously.

​

The 20-year-old has featured at right-back so far this season, earning praise for his all-action displays - but he insists he's happy just to be in the manager's plans.

​

"I've played in quite a few positions, but it's just a case of getting used to it!

​

"Pre-season was the first time I've played right-back, but I'm enjoying it. As long as I'm playing, I don't mind where I play."

​

Stewart's father (Airdrie legend Sandy) played in two Scottish Cup finals at Hampden Park, captaining the Diamonds in the 1992 clash with Rangers.

​

Scott can't wait to make his bow at the famous ground.

​

"It'll be a good occasion at the national stadium. It's a big pitch, so hopefully we'll continue to move the ball well. I'm looking forward to it.

​

"My dad's played in a few big games there, so hopefully I can follow in his footsteps!"

​

Qualification from the Betfred Cup group stage may seem unlikely for Airdrie, with only the winners and the four best second placed sides going through, but Scott says the Diamonds won't be taking their foot off the gas. 

​

"Playing against sides from our own league gives us a good gauge of where we are, just as playing teams from the league above shows us where we are compared to them.

​

"We've got a good enough group here that we can go and get the win".

​

First team coach Kevin McBride reiterated the desire to finish the group stage with a victory.

​

"We're going there to try and win the game and play attacking football - and most importantly try not to get any injuries."

​

The Diamonds squad have a clean bill of health ahead of the showdown with the Spiders.

​

Former Airdrie players Sean Burns and Josh Watt may feature for the home side, while another familiar face will be alongside Gus McPherson on the Spiders' bench - assistant coach Paul Ronald. 

​

David Munro is the referee for the Hampden clash, which kicks off at 7:30pm.
