Kevin Schmidt is hoping to shake off a foot injury in time to face Stenhousemuir as Airdrie aim to make it three league wins out of four.

The Diamonds travel to Ochilview on Saturday after a 1-0 win over Stranraer last weekend, but Dutch forward Schmidt limped out of the game at half-time and now faces a race to be fit for the Larbert showdown.

Explaining the injury, Schmidt said: "I went up for a header and landed badly on my heel. It's bruised and it's still a bit sore, but it's getting better."

​

The 22-year-old was snapped up by Airdrie after impressing against the Diamonds as an Annan Athletic trialist in their final pre-season friendly.

​

Featuring in every match so far, Schmidt has shown his versatility by impressing in both a striking role and as a wide midfielder, but the former Stranraer man is content to play anywhere.

​

"I do prefer to play up top, but for me it's no problem to play in midfield, on the left or the right.

"I'm just happy to play."

​

Although the league season is only weeks old, Airdrie find themselves coming up against a side they have already faced in the Betfred Cup group stage.

​

The Diamonds were 2-1 winners on that occasion, an Adam Brown double securing the points, but Kevin thinks the side have improved since then.

​

"I think we should beat them, having seen the last game and knowing our qualities.

​

"I think now everyone is more used to each other and we're working harder, so I think that what we did in the first half of the cup game, we can now do in the second half as well!"

Kevin McBride is also aware that Stenhousemuir put up a strong fight in the second half of the New Broomfield tie, and the Airdrie boss isn't expecting an easy afternoon.

​

"They definitely came back into the game, and it's going to be difficult on Saturday. 

​

"But, as always, our boys will be up for the challenge."

​

The Diamonds have no other injury worries as Schmidt fights to be available for selection.

​

Brown Ferguson's Stenhousemuir have endured a torrid start to their league campaign, losing all three of their opening matches.

​

The Ochilview boss added to his squad last week, signing Oliver Shaw and Alistair Roy on loan from Hibs and Hearts respectively. Former Airdrie midfielder David Sinclair has also joined the Warriors.
