Joe Gorman says Airdrie must start winning games with immediate effect as there can be no more excuses for the Diamonds' form.

Irish defender Gorman put in a man-of-the-match winning second-half performance against Albion Rovers, but it was scant consolation for a dismal derby loss.

​

Albion Rovers were 2-0 winners on the day, and Gorman was disappointed with the outcome.

"In a game like that you want to start well, and obviously it didn't start very well for us. We tried to claw it back but it didn't go our way.

​

"It will say a lot about us this Saturday if we can bounce back and get three points".

​

After a spell on the sidelines, Gorman put in an eye-catching display as a second half substitute, and the 22-year-old is hoping to keep his place in the team.

"It hasn't gone the way I wanted the last few weeks, but I think I've shown it's in my character to dig in and fight for my place.

​

"Football's not all about the high life, you get ups and downs and I've had a down few weeks - but I was pleased with my performance and hopefully I'll be picked this week and give the same again."

​

Airdrie couldn't have asked for a tougher match in which to attempt to bounce back. Alloa are top of League One having won five of their seven matches following their relegation from the Championship.

Joe is more interested in what the Diamonds are capable of.

​

"We're a good team as well, if we can play with a solid defensive unit. When we start stringing passes together we can be the best team in the league.

​

"It can be frustrating at times for the players, the fans, the manager - because they all know what we can do.

​

"We're going to face hard teams, and Alloa are one of them. We've got to start beating these teams.

​

"There are no excuses any more, we've got to start taking responsibility and start putting some wins together".

​

Kevin McBride was pleased to report a clean bill of health for his squad, but experienced striker Iain Russell is suspended after being sent off in last Saturday's tie.

​

Alloa's influential midfielder Jim Goodwin also saw red at the weekend and will miss out.

​

McBride has been impressed by the job his Alloa counterpart has done.

​

"This is probably our most difficult game of the season. Jack Ross has done a fantastic job there and we know how hard it's going to be, but we need to go and try to be hard to beat."
