Preview: Airdrieonians vs Stranraer

March 12, 2018

Dan Higgins felt Airdrie deserved to take something from Saturday's trip to Methil, and the on-loan defender wants to make amends with a win over Stranraer.

Higgins was handed his first start for the Diamonds at Bayview, but the outcome was not ideal as East Fife snatched an unlikely win in stoppage time.

The Kilmarnock loanee was unhappy with the result.

"To be completely honest I thought we were the better team throughout the game, and we created most of the chances.

"I don't think the result was a fair reflection of the game - we definitely deserved more."

One positive for Higgins was Airdrie's equaliser, which the 19-year-old scored with aplomb.

"I was delighted to get on the scoresheet. I enjoy scoring and trying to create even from defence, so hopefully I can get more goals before the end of the season!"

The Diamonds face an immediate return to action with tomorrow's visit of Stranraer in a fixture rearranged after the original tie was postponed due to bad weather.

Higgins is prepared for another difficult 90 minutes.

"I'm expecting a competitive game with both teams trying to get a positive result, so I'm looking forward to it.

"It's massively important for us to get a win to try and build some momentum and really kick on for the final part of the season."

Manager Stevie Findlay wants his side to prove their quality with another strong home performance.

"Stranraer will be as tough as ever. They’ve come through a tough few months and they’ll be looking to solidify their position, but we know we’re good enough to take maximum points."

John McKendrick will referee the rearranged tie. His only other Airdrie match this season was January's 2-2 Monklands derby draw at Cliftonhill.

Kick off at Excelsior Stadium is at 7:45pm.
