The daughter of former Airdrie favourite Paul Jack is embarking on a fundraising drive after revealing that her father is battling cancer.

 

Megan Jack got in touch with the club to tell us that her dad Paul was diagnosed with waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, a rare and incurable cancer of the blood, in January 2017. Paul began chemotherapy treatment in December.

 

“Lumber” was an uncompromising defender in his playing days with Airdrie during the 1990s, and enjoyed a spell as assistant coach after hanging up his boots. He was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

 

Now daughter Megan is showing solidarity with her dad by raising funds through a sponsored skydive.

 

She told airdriefc.com: “I felt so hopeless watching a loved one go through this, it’s devastating. He has been amazing through all of this and I’m so proud of him.

 

“My way of showing him just how proud I am is by facing one of my fears and jumping out of a plane. If my dad can get up every day and face this, then I can get up off my backside, get it in a plane and jump!”

 

Megan is planning for her skydive to take place around May or June, by which time Paul will be more than halfway through his treatment. Her fundraising target is £800, and if you wish to donate you can do so through Megan’s donation page.
