David Brownlie was pleased with his Diamonds debut performance, and now the defender is ready to face Premiership opposition in the shape of Partick Thistle.

The former Rangers and Ross County prospect joined the club on Saturday morning and was pitched straight into the action as Airdrie faced Livingston in the Betfred Cup.

​

The result didn't go Airdrie's way, but Brownlie was satisfied with his own performance.

​

"I thought I did well. I'm obviously disappointed with the result, but I'm sure the boys can pick it up and go again against Partick.

​

"I'm delighted to sign for Airdrie, it's a good step for me. I just hope I can push on and do well here."

​

For those who missed Saturday's match, the 20-year-old central defender explained what he hopes to add to the squad.

​

"I probably bring a bit more height to the team! I just like to be a solid defender - and the boys play some really good football so I'm sure I can play a part in that as well."

​

Partick Thistle come to New Broomfield on Tuesday night, having recorded an impressive 5-0 win over St Mirren at the weekend.

​

Brownlie insists that he and his new team-mates can't let that - or Thistle's Premiership status - faze them.

​

"We just need to go out and show what we're made of instead of worrying about them. It's a hard group, but it's a good start for us because we can go out and test ourselves and see where we're at for the league.

​

"Games like this are good for us to identify what we need to work on, and I'm sure we can get together and start the season off very well."

​

With a win over League One opponents Stranraer already under their belts, confidence is high among the young Diamonds squad. David has no doubts over what he wants to achieve this season.

​

"Promotion is the main aim, and the whole squad are on the same page with that. If we can get up to the Championship it would be a huge boost for everyone."

​

Coach Donald Jennow is anticipating another tough fixture after Saturday's defeat, but felt the performance at the Tony Macaroni Arena had its plus points.

​

"We defended well in spells against Livingston, and I can't fault the boys' effort and workrate. They put a shift in, and it was a hard game.

​

"We're expecting Partick Thistle to have large periods of possession tomorrow, which makes it important that when we do have the ball we need to look after it better. If we do that, it allows us to get further up the pitch and get more of a foothold in the game."

Marc Fitzpatrick (leg) and Adam Brown (hamstring) are rated doubtful for the tie.
