Everyone at Airdrieonians FC sends their very best wishes to club security advisor Ronnie Trotter, a faithful and long-serving figure at the club, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Ronnie’s involvement with the Diamonds began in 1946, when his father took him to his first Airdrie game at the age of six.

Following the club throughout his childhood, Ronnie often got to watch games from the directors box as a guest of his employers, Dalziel the Bakers. On retiring from the police force 30 years ago, Ronnie immediately purchased a season ticket only to be hired by the club as security advisor on the same day.

A passionate and dedicated employee and fan, Ronnie organised supporters buses and flights to Prague for the highlight of his time supporting the club, the 1992 European Cup Winners Cup campaign.

Speaking to airdriefc.com, Ronnie’s longtime friend John Dalziel - a former Airdrieonians director and club benefactor who now lives in Florida - said: “Ronnie is a true Airdrie supporter through and through. A real Diamond.”

“A loyal and kind friend, Ronnie and I have had many adventures over the years, and more than once I’ve had to drop his name to get out of trouble!”

“Everyone will know him as an absolute gentleman, but few will be aware of his love of karaoke - I’m sure he will be celebrating his big day in style. We are unable to be with Ronnie to celebrate his birthday due to the restrictions on flying, but we send our love.”

A sentiment which is echoed by everyone at the club, and we’re sure by everyone who has met Ronnie over his many years as a Diamonds.

Have a great day, Ronnie!
