Defender Mbayo agrees terms
We are pleased to announce that the club has agreed terms with 22-year-old central defender Harlain Mbayo.
Harlain will join the Diamonds, pending international clearance, after a year at Truro City in the Southern League Premier South. The defender previously spent time at Aberdeen, including a loan spell with Monklands neighbours Albion Rovers.
The former Anderlecht youth has also represented the Democratic Republic of Congo at Under-21 level.
He told airdriefc.com: “I’m really excited to be signing for Airdrie, we have similar goals in terms of winning matches and aiming for promotion at the end of the season, and it gives me another chance to prove myself in Scotland.
“I think I’ll fit in well with the squad - I’m comfortable being isolated with opposing strikers, but I think my main qualities are on the ball.
“As much as I enjoy defending, I like to express myself - whether that be splitting midfields with a pass or stepping out with the ball.”
Director of Football Stuart Millar was pleased to tie down a long-standing target.
“We tried to get Harlain last summer, he’s a big strong lad who will give us options at the back.
“He has a good pedigree after coming through the youth system at Anderlecht and representing his country at Under 21 level, and he’s familiar with the Scottish game after four years at Aberdeen.”
