Forward Stokes joins the Diamonds
We are delighted to announce the signing of former Leeds United forward Eoghan Stokes, subject to international clearance.
The 24-year-old, who can play as a striker or attacking midfielder, spent four years at Elland Road, making one first-team appearance before turning out for a number of clubs in his native Ireland.
Capped by the Republic of Ireland at U16, U17 and U19 levels, Stokes is now looking forward to playing in Scotland. He told airdriefc.com: “It’s a place that loves its football, so I’m pleased to get this deal done and I can’t wait for the season to start now!
“I’ve played with two of the boys from the team before, so I spoke to them before I came and they had nothing but good things to say about Airdrie. I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the boys and getting going.”
“I’m a player that likes to create chances and score goals, and I’m always wanting to get on the ball and try to make things happen - hopefully it’ll be a successful season for myself and the team!”
Director of Football Stuart Millar believes Stokes is another exciting addition for the Diamonds.
“Eoghan is a player who was highly regarded at Leeds United and in the Republic of Ireland set-up, and we’re delighted to bring him to the club.
“He’s a very enthusiastic lad, and he’ll integrate with the squad quickly having already played with Paul McKay at Leeds and Josh Kerr at Derry City.
“He’s the kind of player who gets bums on seats, and I’m sure the fans here will enjoy watching him.”
