Euan O’Reilly says Airdrie still have the belief to push for a promotion play-off as the Diamonds aim to change their form against Dumbarton.

Tuesday night saw Ian Murray’s side slip to their third loss since the League One restart as a Jamie Masson brace consigned the Diamonds to a 2-0 defeat against Cove Rangers, but O’Reilly is pleased to be back in the starting line-up as Airdrie seek to make amends.

“Personally it’s been brilliant to be back out on the pitch starting games, I’ve had to bide my time this season.

“Overall we were obviously disappointed to lose last night, we never did enough to win the game, but there have been some positives from the first half of both the Cove and Partick games, so we’re looking to take those into the next games.”

As the fixtures continue to stack up following the temporary suspension of lower league football, Airdrie’s three defeats have been far from ideal.

O’Reilly says it’s been hard to take in the dressing room.

“All the boys are hurting but we all believe we can turn this around.

“We just need to stick together and not feel sorry for ourselves and we know we can push up the league.”

A Thursday night trip to the C&G Systems Stadium gives the Diamonds an immediate chance to make amends and get a massive three points on the board.

Airdrie’s trip to Dumbarton has been a contrived tale this season - the fixture was originally scheduled to be played in October, but with the pitch unplayable at The Rock, the tie was switched to Airdrie.

The Sons ran out 2-0 winners that day, with a Leon McCann own goal compounding the Diamonds’ misery after Jamie Wilson had given Jim Duffy’s side a first-half lead.

Airdrie’s chance to seek revenge in January was also thwarted by the weather, with the lower league suspension then kicking in.

With the match finally set to go ahead tomorrow evening, Euan is in no doubt over the importance of the result.

“It won’t be easy but we know it’s a massive game for us.

“There can be no excuses - we need to dust ourselves down after last night’s disappointment and go there and get three points.”

Manager Ian Murray is pleased to welcome Kyle Turner back to the squad ahead of the trip.

“It’s another hard game in what is a hectic week for both teams. We go there and try as ever to win the game, and having Kyle back for that is a huge boost.”

Midfielder Paul Paton, who was injured during Tuesday night’s warm-up, looks set to miss out alongside Josh Kerr.

Gavin Ross is the referee for the 7:45pm kick-off at the C&G Systems Stadium.
