Callum and Calum sign up
We are delighted to announce that defender Callum Fordyce and striker Calum Gallagher have signed contract extensions to remain at the club - and will take on the roles of club captain and vice-captain respectively.
The pair were at the Penny Cars Stadium tonight to sign their deals under the watchful eye of manager Ian Murray, who was pleased to retain two important players.
Having taken the armband on occasion, Fordyce has been appointed club captain following the departure of Sean Crighton.
He told airdriefc.com: “This is probably the club that I’ve felt most at home at, I’ve got a great relationship with the manager and the other players, so I’m delighted to be staying somewhere I’m enjoying my football.
“It’s a massive honour being named captain, although I have big boots to fill! Sean has been a very close friend to me both on and off the pitch, and it’s great to take over from him in leading the boys.
“It’s going to be a massive season ahead for us, and I’m looking forward to playing my part.”
And striker Calum Gallagher was also pleased to extend his stay.
“I’m chuffed to get it sorted and over the line. We were so close last year, and hopefully we can take that and use it as fuel for the fire this season.
“I’m getting to a point in my career when I am quite senior in the dressing room, so it’s nice to be acknowledged by the gaffer with the vice-captaincy.
“I’m looking forward to supporting the boys and supporting Dycey as the captain, and it’s an honour to add that responsibility to whatever else I can do to help the club to be as successful as we can.”
