Lest we forget
On Remembrance Sunday we pay our respects to the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who gave their lives to defend our freedom - including those connected to Airdrieonians FC.
Several individuals with links to the club were lost across two world wars, including Bobby Williams, a right half who made 114 appearances for the Diamonds over six years, before losing his life during the First World War.
Bobby, who hailed from Ayrshire, was a private in the Royal Scots Fusiliers and was killed on the Western Front on August 31, 1916. His bravery is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
Today we remember Bobby along with the others who made the ultimate sacrifice.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
