Keeper Hemfrey checks in
We are pleased to announce the signing of 22-year-old goalkeeper Robbie Hemfrey.
A former Scottish youth international, Hemfrey came through the youth system at Motherwell before moving to Stoke City, where the 6’4 keeper was a regular in the U23 side.
A move to Rotherham followed, where Robbie spent a season and was hailed a hero for a superb first-team performance against Burnley.
Joining up at the Excelsior as a free agent, Robbie told airdriefc.com: “I’m happy to be here and excited for what’s ahead.
“I think we look to win on Saturday, it’s a big game. Then the cup final next week is a chance at a medal and a trophy. We need to look up, really.”
Manager Rhys McCabe added: “Robbie’s well-travelled for his age, he’s been down in the English Championship and he’s hungry for opportunities.
“He’s at a stage now where he’s desperate to play football, so it’s a good opportunity and it fits in with what we’re looking for - a young, hungry goalkeeper with something to prove.”
Welcome to the Diamonds, Robbie!
