Squad movements
Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, we can provide an initial update on the current status of the playing squad.
As always, the close season will see players moving on as new faces join the club, and this year we bid farewell to some popular figures who have decided that their futures lie elsewhere.
As previously announced, striker Calum Gallagher and defender Callum Fordyce have decided to move on, and once again we wish them well.
Also moving on are Gabby McGill and Robbie Hemfrey.
Striker Gabby joined Airdrie in July 2019, scoring an impressive 32 goals over three seasons despite some spells on the sidelines. Few will forget Gabby’s most important goal in the Diamond, a stoppage-time strike to send the 2022/23 play-off final to extra-time - and the rest is history. Gabby leaves the club with our thanks best wishes for the future.
Goalkeeper Robbie leaves the club following the expiry of his short-term deal, and we are grateful to him for the part he played in our run-in last season, including an SPFL Trust Trophy win and a vital penalty save at Arbroath.
Defenders Joe Cassidy, Corrie Fellows and Nathan Gillespie, midfielder Alasdair Spalding, and striker Dom Kavanagh will also move on following the end of their contracts. We wish the boys all the best with their future careers.
Loanees Murray Aiken, Chris Donnell, Arron Lyall, Kanayo Megwa and Josh O’Connor return to their parent clubs with our thanks for their considerable efforts during their time with the club, and we will watch their future careers with interest.
Alongside player-manager Rhys McCabe, nine players are currently under contract for the upcoming season: Elliot Dunlop, Gavin Gallagher, Mason Hancock, Lewis McGregor, Dean McMaster, Liam McStravick, Cameron Rowley, Nikolay Todorov and Craig Watson.
Discussions are ongoing with the remainder of the squad, and as always we’ll provide updates when their positions are finalised.
Meanwhile, physio JD Peacock left the club at the end of the season. Our thanks and best wishes go to JD, and we extend a warm welcome to new physio Ben Richardson, who joins us from Kilmarnock.
