Goalkeeping coach Hutton extends Diamonds stay
Popular goalkeeping coach David Hutton will continue in the dug-out for the Diamonds after agreeing a contract extension with the club.
The 39-year-old is in his second spell with Airdrie, having been brought back as a player-coach by manager Rhys McCabe in 2022. A two-year stint as the club’s number 1 preceded the role, and the well-travelled keeper has also featured for the like of Clyde, Morton, Dunfermline and Alloa in a long playing career.
As he extended his current stay at the Albert Bartlett Stadium, David told airdriefc.com: “I’m delighted to be staying on - I had some interest from other clubs, but this is my home so there was never any chance of me looking elsewhere!
“I’m not quite ready to fully hang up the gloves yet, but I will be taking a step back from the playing side to focus solely on coaching, and I’m looking forward to working with the first-team goalkeepers as well as the bright young talents coming through the ranks - the future’s in safe hands!”
Manager Rhys McCabe was pleased to have Hutton commit his future to the club.
“Hutts has been a great help - and a great success - in aiding the development of our goalkeepers with the way that I want to play.
“Having him apply that focus in a full-time role will only help me and improve the goalkeepers at the club.”
Welcome back, Hutts!
