Keeper Murray back with the Diamonds

We are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Murray Johnson on a season-long loan from Hibernian.

Murray needs no introduction to the Diamonds faithful, having performed heroics across a series of emergency loan deals in season 2022/23, and he returns to the Albert Bartlett Stadium for the duration of the upcoming campaign.

The 19-year-old stopper made his senior football debut with Airdrie aged just 17 and is rated as one of the country’s hottest goalkeeping prospects, with a number of involvements with Scotland’s U16s, U19s, and U21s already under his belt.

A spell at Queen of the South last season was cut short due to an injury crisis at parent club Hibs, but the big keeper is happy to get back out on loan - and thrilled to be back with the Diamonds.

He told airdriefc.com: “I’m obviously very excited, I really enjoyed my time here. I loved the club, and loved working for the manager, so I’m just delighted to be back.

“I knew the way Airdrie played from my time here, but watching them last season I was very impressed. I just want to be a part of that.

“It’s a club that’s close to my heart - I made my professional debut here - so I want to help the team out as much as I can. I think it’s going to be a really exciting season!”

And manager Rhys McCabe was pleased to welcome Murray back to the club.

“Muzz had a successful period here, albeit a short-lived one, and did really well.

“He’s at a stage of his career where he wants to play. He’s hungry, he’s got the bit between his teeth, and he’s raring to go - so we’re delighted to get him in.”

Our thanks go to Hibernian FC for their assistance with the loan deal.

Welcome back, Murray!
