We are delighted to announce the signing of 25-year-old defender Lewis Strapp, subject to SFA and international clearance.

Full-back Lewis made over 100 appearances for Morton over a seven-year spell at Cappielow which included loans at Elgin City and Annan Athletic, having previously come through the Greenock club’s youth academy.

Having joined Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho in Finland after leaving Morton last summer, Lewis is now resuming his career in Scotland with Airdrie.

He told airdriefc.com: “I’m glad to get it over the line, I obviously just want to get going now – it’s coming into the new year and I want to get playing and get some minutes under my belt.

“I’d been at Morton my whole life really, until the last six or seven months, and I’m just glad to be home and get back playing – I’m sure we’ll be playing them soon at Cappielow and it’ll be enjoyable!

“When I went back to Morton last year we went on a 16-game unbeaten run. It was a good six months of the season, and to recreate that here would be something special.”

And manager Rhys McCabe added: “We’re obviously delighted to get Lewis in, I think in our current situation someone who knows the league and has plenty of experience will be of great value.

“We know Lewis from having played against him, he’ll add a bit of steel and a bit of stability, and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
